The History of Musica Viva

Music enriches our lives and often becomes inextricably linked with the most poignant moments in them.

Founded in 1945, Musica Viva is Australia's oldest independent professional performing arts organisation. As an independent not-for-profit arts organisation, Musica Viva relies on the essential support of donors, funding partners, government support, corporate partners, and the many volunteers who freely give their time.

Thanks to their help, Musica Viva continues to share the delights of chamber music with audiences throughout Australia, presenting over 2,000 concerts in capital cities, regional communities and schools per year - not to mention the national and international artists we support throughout our vast range of programs.

Musica Viva stands for the transformative power of live music and for the unique creative force that is unleashed through a life-long engagement with music.
Richard Goldner's vision of Musica Viva has been inspiring since Dec 1945 and recently designated by the Federal Government as a National Flagship amongst the 28 Major Performing Arts Companies of Australia.
