CELTIC CONNECTIONS
performed by Pastance

The very beginnings of Western music

One Direction may be the latest Anglo-Celtic group to hit the market but Pastance is where it all began. Celtic Connections is a journey through the diverse styles of Celtic and Anglo folk traditions, the very foundations of Western music. From well-known songs to rare treasures, students can play and interact with the distinctive instruments of the genre like the harp, recorder, fiddle, Baroque guitar, lute, bagpipes, darabukka and bodhran. Through narrative-based music, students will meet a Celtic prince, dance a foot-stomping fisherman’s jig, celebrate a wedding, and march to the bagpipes!

Celtic Connections is a Live Performance Plus performance.

Live Performance Plus offers the unique experience of Live Performance by a professional music ensemble at your school, supported by professional development for teachers plus resources for teaching music in your classrooms.

The Professional Development is a three hour session held in a venue close to a number of participating schools.

The Teaching Resources incorporate a variety of activities related to the music of the live performance ensemble, which together can create a term of lessons. The resources link to literacy, numeracy and ICT for all ages from lower primary through to junior secondary. Also included are an audio CD with the ensemble’s music, activities and support materials.

In 2012 Live Performance Plus will include NEW interactive resources for the digital classroom. These resources are cross-platform and will operate on interactive whiteboards, or on computers and with data projectors. They are complimentary to the existing resources and provide engaging activities for your students understanding as well as quality teaching.
