Music from the festivals and carnivals of the world
Take a walk down Sideshow Alley and experience the music of the carnivals and festivals of the world. The Sousaphonics capture the collective spirit that gives rise to these festivities and their instruments. The performance explores the music of Afro-beat, mardi gras and carnivale marches, sambas to circus music as well as Balkan folk.
The Sousaphonics appropriate music that is both uplifting, appeals on first listening and is inherently adaptable for active audience participation. The biggest and most unusual brass instrument in the group is the sousaphone, hence the band’s name.
Festivals require participation for their success and The Sousaphonics repertoire reflects that. This talented quintet will create a festival atmosphere in your school during their live performance.
Side Show Alley is a Live Performance Plus performance.
Live Performance Plus offers the unique experience of Live Performance by a professional music ensemble at your school, supported by professional development for teachers plus resources for teaching music in your classrooms.
The Professional Development is a three hour session held in a venue close to a number of participating schools.
The Teaching Resources incorporate a variety of activities related to the music of the live performance ensemble, which together can create a term of lessons. The resources link to literacy, numeracy and ICT for all ages from lower primary through to junior secondary. Also included are an audio CD with the ensemble’s music, activities and support materials.
In 2012 Live Performance Plus will include NEW interactive resources for the digital classroom. These resources are cross-platform and will operate on interactive whiteboards, or on computers and with data projectors. They are complimentary to the existing resources and provide engaging activities for your students understanding as well as quality teaching.
“There are many people who can come in and provide wonderful concerts and activities for the children but there are very few that actually provide the support and the guidance and the inservicing for the staff before it happens. ”
