An adventure of contemporary South American urban music
Sail into the world of Latin American music. Inspired by the continents incredible diversity of cultures (Indigenous, African and European), Tigramuna present a stunning performance of contemporary South American urban music.
From the haunting sounds of Indigenous South American instruments through the driving African derived rhythms of Cuba, Peru and Brazil to European art music and North American jazz there is a universe of sounds to explore and from which to create new music.
Students will be dazzled by this dynamic quintet and their panpipes, Andean flute, guitar, bass guitar, saxophone, flute, drums and Latin American percussion instruments.
Sailing the Sounds of South America is a Live Performance Plus performance.
Live Performance Plus offers the unique experience of Live Performance by a professional music ensemble at your school, supported by professional development for teachers plus resources for teaching music in your classrooms.
The Professional Development is a three hour session held in a venue close to a number of participating schools.
The Teaching Resources incorporate a variety of activities related to the music of the live performance ensemble, which together can create a term of lessons. The resources link to literacy, numeracy and ICT for all ages from lower primary through to junior secondary. Also included are an audio CD with the ensemble’s music, activities and support materials.
In 2012 Live Performance Plus will include NEW interactive resources for the digital classroom. These resources are cross-platform and will operate on interactive whiteboards, or on computers and with data projectors. They are complimentary to the existing resources and provide engaging activities for your students understanding as well as quality teaching.
A Story from a school in the ACT
“At one concert Tigramuna called for a volunteer to perform a drumming exercise. A year 5 student was chosen and teachers described him later as a ‘disengaged’ child who had significant behavioural problems. This student had never had music lessons yet his rhythmic ability was described by the ensemble and the ACT Education Manager as ‘phenomenal’. The student has now commenced drumming lessons as a result of this experience.”
