Mandurah program: Rhythm of Life

I was quite excited to be involved with the singing group. Songs that I thought would be impossible for me, I have found them to be challenging and lovely to hear the voices harmonising. I didn’t know I could sing!

Mandurah Participant

Musica Viva Australia and Ac-cent are proud to announce the second year of their popular singing workshop for seniors, Rhythm of Life – Music for Life.

This innovative singing workshop, which is designed to have health and well-being benefits as well as bringing the joy of singing to seniors, began on Monday 8th March.

Rhythm of Life – Music for Life participants will enjoy 28 weeks of singing workshops spread over 4 terms, which will culminate in a performance by participants for family and friends.  They will also have the opportunity to participate in the Sing It! concert held at UWA’s Winthrop Hall in December.

The singing workshops run on Mondays, from 11:00am – 1:00pm at Ac-cent, located at 41 Ormsby Terrace, Mandurah.  Participants don’t have to be able to sing, read music or be a member of Ac-cent.  They just need to be willing to give it a go, and have fun!

The participants in Rhythm of Life – Music for Life are asked to take part in the Singing – A Healthy Way to Live Study that is running alongside the programs.  It is investigating if participation in the workshops has any effect on health and well-being.

Music for Life Mandurah is a joint venture between Musica Viva Australia and Ac-cent Mandurah.  It is supported by the Australia Council, the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body, through its Community Partnerships Section.  It is part of the ‘Act, Belong, Commit to Singing: A Healthy Way to Live’ project, which is a collaboration with University of Western Australia with support from Healthway and the Wicking Trust.
