Musica Viva Festival 2011

28 April - 1 May 2011

Sydney Conservatorium of Music

with The Australian Youth Orchestra

The 2011 Musica Viva Festival is the only festival of its kind in Australia, bringing together the world’s finest artists with the most exciting emerging artists from The Australian Youth Orchestra.

Together these musicians will create musical collaborations bursting with energy and freshness, all within the hallowed halls of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

•    Pekka Kuusisto (violin)
•    Takács Quartet
•    Eggner Trio
•    Goldner String Quartet
•    Khatia Buniatishvili (piano)

Held over four days, the Festival brings together these master musicians to mentor the nation’s finest young musicians who have been specially selected by The Australian Youth Orchestra. Thanks to the founding support from the Berg Family Foundation, a wealth of chamber music will be heard in concerts, master-classes and open rehearsals complemented by talks and interviews with the artists and key festival guests.

Our collaboration with The Australian Youth Orchestra and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music are vital components of the Musica Viva “Total Immersion Chamber Music” Festival in 2011.

"There are few places where you can hear the world’s most masterful musicians in concert as well as see them imparting wisdom to young trainees, watch the apprentices apply this freshly absorbed learning in their own performances, then return as audience members for the masters."

"And there are few places better equipped for a festival like this than the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Splendid venues with great acoustics, custom designed for chamber music and a wealth of lecture and rehearsal spaces, are neatly packaged with all the amenities needed to ensure a seamless audience experience. If you’ve ever been moved by chamber music and wondered how it is made or what motivates great virtuosi – or if on the other hand you’ve ever wondered what all the fuss was about – there are few better opportunities to find the answers. Oh! And there are the concerts."
