MICMC

Musica Viva is proud to be a partner of the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition

Held every four years, the Competition is one of the most highly regarded classical music competitions, renowned for its integrity and high standard of performance.

As a showcase of the best young piano trios and string quartets in the world, this competition has won the respect of the global music community and attracts international agents, presenters, venue directors, critics and supporters to Melbourne every four years for a celebration of chamber music and the next generation of performers. Past winners include the Atos Trio (2007), the Eggner Trio (2003) and the Aviv String Quartet and Kungsbacka Piano Trio (1999).

The competition this year was of an exceptionally high standard that offered us more than one opportunity to choose a world class ensemble to suit the Musica Viva main stage. We are delighted to announce that the Kelemen Quartet from Hungary is the recipient of this year's Musica Viva Prize. Many of the groups displayed an admirable level of technical proficiency, but the Kelemen has an inventiveness and innate sense of musicality that is simply inspiring. I look forward to an enduring relationship with this remarkable young group starting with a national concert tour in the next few years.
