ABC Classic FM and Musica Viva present the Classic Recorder Romp

This national competition will award one major prize to the most inspirational entry. Entry to the Classic Recorder Romp competition is open to all recorder ensembles (of 2 or more players). Entry was by submitting a 2 minute video performance to YouTube.

Entries are now closed but were submitted from 9am AEST Monday 30th May to 5pm AEST Friday 9th June 2011. These entries were aired on ABC Classic Breakfast with Emma Ayres.

The major prize winner hade Genevieve Lacey visit their school or group for a personal workshop and short private performance. State winners in concert cities were invited to perform in the foyer prior to the Concerto Copenhagen concerts. There is also an audience prize of an Optimum Percussion pack to the value of $300 for the video which receives the most public votes, voting open was on the ABC Classic FM website from the 16th to 24th June.

Damien Beaumont announced that the most inspiring group is the Perth Recorder Orchestra. The group’s performance on video is beautifully done, with a refined interpretation and very strong ensemble playing from the twelve members. The group has a wide age range and there is a lovely feeling of community. This ‘win’ also recognises that in Perth there is a very strong recorder ‘world’, as shown by the short-listed school groups from that state.

The other 3 finalists were Ribatutta, NSW and Cranbourne Salvation Army Group and Ballarat Grammar School, both from Victoria.

Congratulations to Marryatville Primary School in South Australia,
WINNER of the Classic Recorder Romp ‘People's Choice’ Award!
