Prime Minister John Howard, on behalf of the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF), awarded Sun Microsystems Australia and Musica Viva Australia the “Outstanding Partnership of the Year Award” on top of their success in the Bytecraft Commitment Award.

These awards recognise the creative arts programs and solid business results achieved during a 12-year partnership between Sun and Musica Viva.

"Sun, like Musica Viva, believes in innovation and connecting people. Musica Viva does it through music, Sun does it using technology," said Jim Hassell, Managing Director, Sun Microsystems Australia.  "In partnership, we can do so much more for our customers and audiences by sharing ideas and leveraging our respective skills," he continued.

As an extension of their partnership to celebrate 20 years in Australia, Sun Microsystems Australia commissioned six Australian musicians to compose a suite of works, subsequently used for Sun-related events and promotions.

"This sponsorship goes beyond a simple funding arrangement. It is about working together to help achieve each organisation's objectives," said Mary Jo Capps, CEO, Musica Viva Australia.  "Sun's business is based on a true passion and curiosity about the world around us, mirroring precisely what we seek through our work in music, which means we can work together for better outcomes for all stakeholders," she said.

In presenting the awards, the judges stated that the partnership was characterised by enduring passion, rigorous analysis, and shared creative strategies, giving it the edge over the other finalists in this prestigious national awards night.
