30% of Musica Viva’s total revenue is received through its partnerships with government bodies across the country.
The support received from the Australian Government, through the Australia Council for the Arts, and from the NSW Government through Arts NSW is critical to the ongoing viability of Musica Viva. The annual recurrent support received from these governments provides the foundation upon which all activities of the company can emanate. This support enables Musica Viva to present the finest International and Australian artists in concert halls across Australia. This support also enables the company to present its daytime Coffee Concert series in Melbourne and Sydney.
Countrywide
Musica Viva presents music performances in regional towns and cities across the country through its Countrywide touring program. Working in partnership with venues and arts workers, this program presents both established and emerging Australian musicians. Countrywide is supported by Arts NSW, Arts Victoria, Arts QLD, Playing Australia and Healthway.
Musica Viva In Schools
Musica Viva In Schools is the leading music education program for young people in Australia, providing professional development for teachers, live concerts by professional musicians, and classroom activities to prepare the students for the live concerts, all directly linked to the state/territory school curriculum. Musica Viva is committed to enhancing the delivery of quality music education programs in schools.
The In Schools program would not be possible without the support of State and Territory Education and Arts Departments across Australia, including:

- NSW Department of Education and Training,
- VIC Department of Education and Early Childhood Development,
- QLD Department of Education,
- SA Youth Arts Board,
- SA Department of Education and Children’s Services,
- WA Department of Culture and the Arts,
- WA Department of Education

- ACT Department of Education Youth and Family Services and
- TAS Department of Education.
The Australian Government also supports Musica Viva In Schools through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). In particular, DEEWR has provided funding for a major three-year project (Country Area Program) to provide music education in remote country area schools.
Café Carnivale
The partnership between the Café Carnivale World Music program and Arts NSW has been integral in the program’s significant growth since 2004. Café Carnivale is also supported by Parramatta Council who provide funding to develop the Parramatta Café Carnivale series.
Export
Musica Viva exports Australian musicians to international destinations in collaboration with the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In 2008 this support enabled tours to the Philippines, Laos, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, China and Indonesia.
Creativity and Ageing
Musica Viva’s pilot Creativity and Ageing project was funded by the Australia Council for the Arts and was presented in partnership with Campbelltown Arts Centre. It set out to identify if there was a link between actively participating in music and improved health and wellbeing of the ageing community. The outcomes of the project have been so positive that other government bodies are interested in having the project replicated in their state. The program is now being rolled out in WA.
Musica Viva Festival
Also supporting Musica Viva is the City of Sydney Council who provided significant support for the inaugural Musica Viva Festival in 2008. Musica Viva looks forward to continuing its work with local governments to assist them in reaching their cultural development goals.
