The Scenario
A TV Education channel is interested in a series of music programs featuring Musica Viva In Schools groups. Each program will be based on a particular theme.

As the programmer you need to choose the themes, select the groups and choose the music.

Firstly you need to choose a theme. Here are some ideas:

All That Jazz (search word – jazz)
Dance Around the World (search word – dance)
Out of Africa (search word – Africa)
Our Homeland (search word – Australia)
A Near Neighbour (search word – Indonesia)
Mouth Music (search word – vocal)
Fantastic Flutes (search word – flute)
Singing Strings (search word –violin)
Guitar Rules, OK? (search word – guitar)
Drum Beat (search word – percussion)
Licorice Sticks (search word – clarinet)
Traditional Times (search word – traditional)

Choose one of these themes or one of your own if you prefer.

Go to The Musicians and Their Music section and type the search word for the theme you have chosen into the Search facility. List all the possibilities, then read about and listen to them.
Set up a chart with these headings: title of piece; instruments; group name; duration or click here for a PDF version of the chart. Enter on this chart all the examples which appeal to you.
Plan a program which will take about 60 minutes. Remember to allow time for players to change instruments – and catch their breath! Will your concert have an interval? If so, how long will it be? Think carefully about the order in which pieces will be heard. Type up your program.
