Jian Wang first came to international attention as a child prodigy in the 1970s documentary ‘From Mao to Mozart’. Since then his career has taken off around the globe and now brings him to Australia to perform with pianist Bernadette Harvey.
Bernadette showcases her trademark virtuosity and imagination in Carl Vine’s legendary Piano Sonata no 1 (perhaps the most-performed Australian piano work ever) and to the fingerbusting demands of Kevin Puts’ Alternating Current. Alongside solo suites by Bach and two hallmark Brahms cello sonatas, there is also one by Schnittke. Jian describes it as ‘one of the greatest pieces of all time.’
“What makes Wang's playing so memorable is the fierce intensity with which he grasps, shapes and projects ideas”
