Monash Strike A Chord Workshop

The 2024 Monash Strike A Chord Workshop brought together 19 secondary students representing groups including Ivory Quartet (NSW), Schumann Piano Quartet (NSW), Quatuor Fabriqués (VIC), Do Re Mi Harmonica Trio (VIC), PLC Sydney Octet (NSW), WolfGang (QLD), SAS Trio (QLD) and the Beethoven String Quartet (NSW).

The workshop exists to support more experienced young musicians who are ready to explore chamber music at a deeper level. It offers the space, time and guidance for advanced players to extend their ensemble skills, learn from professional musicians and experience what it feels like to rehearse and perform in a focused, creative environment.

Students took part in a mix of coaching sessions, instrument workshops, musicianship classes and movement-based rhythm work. Tutors from Monash University and the chamber music community guided the weekend, offering practical insights into rehearsal approaches, ensemble communication and musical interpretation.

The workshop concluded with an informal performance for families and friends, giving students the chance to share what they had worked on and experience the energy of performing in a supportive environment.
