Musica Viva Australia is thrilled to receive funding from the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, allowing us to deliver two major competitions which will put Melbourne in the spotlight for classical music over the next four years.
The much-welcomed support will see Strike A Chord continue in 2022, as well as the presentation of the iconic Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition in 2023.
“Strike A Chord has had such a strong response from aspiring musicians around Australia as we launched it through two pandemic years. We’re delighted that for three more years it will inspire more young people to discover the joy and challenge of chamber music, and hope that some may become Melbourne International Chamber Music competitors of the future.” Artistic Director of Competitions, Wilma Smith.
Both competitions are presented in partnership with the Melbourne Recital Centre, which hosts both finals, and the Australian National Academy of Music.
Running since 2015, FutureMakers is designed to discover and enable brilliant early career artists to become Australia’s musical leaders of tomorrow.
The Musica Viva Masterclass program gives music students the unique opportunity to learn from some of the world’s finest chamber musicians in a variety of learning environments across the country.
