Monash Strike A Chord Workshop

Held on 12–13 April 2025 at Monash University’s Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance, the Monash Strike A Chord Workshop once again brought young chamber musicians together for two energising days of learning and collaboration.

This year’s program welcomed 33 secondary students from across Australia, representing groups such as Ivory Quartet (NSW), Quatuor Fabriqués (VIC), PLC Sydney Octet (NSW), WolfGang (QLD) and Do Re Mi Harmonica Trio (VIC).

Participants took part in a rich mix of coaching sessions, instrumental workshops and full-cohort activities. Alongside dedicated ensemble coaching, the schedule included string, piano and harmonica workshops, two Kodály singing sessions and a flamenco rhythm and dance workshop that had everyone on their feet. The weekend closed with an informal concert for families and friends, celebrating two days of hard work and new friendships.

A team of 11 professional tutors guided the program, including Wilma Smith, Anna McMichael, Aaron Wyatt, Aura Go, Jos Jonker, Daniel Smith, Renee Heron, and flamenco artists Chantelle Cano and Johnny Tedesco.

Students described the experience as inspiring and confidence-building. One participant shared that “travelling and performing with friends and learning from the tutors was a special experience that helped us grow as a group,” later crediting the workshop for their success at the Sydney Eisteddfod.

Details for the 2026 Monash Strike A Chord Workshop will be available soon.
