Social and Sensory Learning Through Music in the Classroom

Our Professional Development workshops give you the confidence and tools to deliver music lessons in the classroom. Covering basic elements from the F-10 music curriculum, you will develop skills, ideas, and activities for immediate use. All events are designed for both generalist classroom teachers and music specialists.

All workshops are curriculum aligned to the relevant State music syllabus and aligned to AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers. Musica Viva Australia is a NESA-recommended provider because we currently run programs that are NESA-accredited.

Music is a flexible, responsive and effective tool for supporting social and sensory learning. Incorporating simple music-based activities in everyday classroom routines supports children and educators to build trusting relationships at school, home and in the community. Sensory learning through shared musicmaking provides opportunities for both self and co-regulation in busy school environments.

Come along and experience hands on music, movement, singing and instrumental activities that can be easily adapted for learners of all ages and abilities to enhance social and sensory learning. Explore how simple music activities can cater for a wide range of needs, strengths and interests.

This workshop is aimed at the generalist teacher and music specialist.

AT THIS WORKSHOP YOU WILL:

  • engage in a variety of activities involving singing, playing and moving
  • explore music as a flexible tool for enhancing social learning and relationship building inside and outside of your classroom
  • explore a range of music-based sensory strategies that can support emotional regulation for children and educators.
  • discover ways that music can support vocabulary development, focus and listening  through play
  • consider how music-based activities can be designed to cater for a wide range of learning needs and strengths
