Emily Sun, Nicolas Fleury, and Amir Farid became something of a dream team when they embarked on their first tour together for Musica Viva Australia in 2021. Audiences had the rare opportunity to hear the French horn in an intimate setting and were delighted by the chemistry between the three musicians.
It’s no surprise then they’ve chosen to reunite for this Viva Edge concert, revisiting two works that made their 2021 tour so memorable. Up first is Gordon Kerry’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, a 10-minute showcase for two virtuosos. Taking full advantage of the colours available to both instruments, it’s a vivid, shimmering work that sweeps audiences away. It won Sun and Farid special acclaim upon its world premiere, their assured interpretation of the work especially noteworthy.
Equally breathtaking is the Brahms Horn Trio, a work that spotlights the expressive qualities of its titular instrument and brings together both the pastoral and domestic environments. There is nothing quite like it in all of classical music.
