Vocal Detour is an a cappella group comprised of some of Australia’s finest choristers and soloists, hailing from ensembles such as The Song Company, Pinchgut Opera, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and Sydney Chamber Choir. Although at home in a variety of styles, members Anna Fraser, Hannah Fraser, Andrei Laptev, Mark Donnelly, and Andrew O’Connor are especially passionate about a cappella music and its uniquely expressive possibilities.
Audiences will recall that Vocal Detour’s very first performance as an ensemble was for a Musica Viva Australia’s Sessions concert in 2021. This time they take to the stage for Sydney Morning Masters, performing works inspired by nature. The exciting centrepiece of the concert is a world premiere by Yuin composer Brenda Gifford, which audiences will hear alongside Lassus’ Paisible Domaine, an ode to Paris, Hindemith’s Six Chansons, one of the great a cappella masterpieces of the 20th century, and Philip Stopford’s exquisite For the Beauty of the Earth.
