Genevieve Lacey & Marshall McGuire
As the world was plunged into lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 last year, recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey began thinking about how she could collaborate with her fellow artists to create something that provided a sense of sanctuary.
Inspired by the bower bird and its ability to construct beautiful shelters out of myriad items, Lacey conceived of this special program full of old favourites and new works, much of the latter composed by dear colleagues she herself engaged. Originally intended as a recording project, Artistic Director Paul Kildea proposed that it become a stage production for Musica Viva instead.
Lacey’s brainchild is now an immersive digital concert experience, available to watch from the comfort of your own home. Featuring storytelling by Ruth Little, sound by Jim Atkins, and lighting by Niklas Pajanti, tune in on July 24 at 7pm AEST as Lacey is joined onstage by friend and colleague, esteemed harpist Marshall McGuire, to present works spanning the baroque to the present day. The program will feature many exciting Australian premieres by the likes of Lachlan Skipworth, Lou Bennett, Bree van Reyk and Erkki Veltheim. With tickets starting from just $5, discover an enchanting new sound world this winter and take shelter in the hope and beauty of Genevieve’s vision.
