It is with deep regret that Musica Viva Australia has made the difficult decision to postpone the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition in 2022.

The ever-changing environment with restrictions on international travel due to COVID-19 has meant that presenting the competition next year has become untenable. We appreciate the great disappointment that will be felt by many, not least those who have entered or are planning to enter #MICMC in 2022. To accommodate the postponement we will be extending the age of entrants to under 36 years rather than the previously stated 35 years.

We are committed to ensuring that ensembles worldwide are given the opportunity to apply for MICMC. We do this to maintain the exceptional standard of chamber music ensembles that has come to be expected with MICMC.

The MICMC team is working on various alternate plans and confirming new possibilities with our funders, venue, and supporters. We will update you as soon as we are able. Thank you for your patience and as ever we do hope you will continue to support the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and all that it embodies, cultivating the next generation of the world’s greatest chamber musicians.

If you have an application in progress or are thinking of applying, we strongly encourage you to resubmit your application when the new competition dates are announced.

We look forward to welcoming you to compete with the best of your generation of chamber musicians! For any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly on social media or at micmc@musicaviva.com.au
