Exploring Music from the Torres Strait

Dr Sue Lane has worked with the education team at Musica Viva Australia for many years and is passionate about all aspects of music education. Sue worked as a music specialist and classroom teacher in schools on the Central Coast of NSW, before lecturing in Music and Dance Education at the University of Newcastle and more recently at the University of Technology, Sydney. Sue is an active committee member and presenter with Orff NSW, and is a lead mentor with the National Music Teacher Mentoring Program, supporting educators in the exploration of creative music experiences in their classrooms. She also works as a music educator and presenter with Sydney Symphony Education. Sue completed her PhD in 2019 and continues her research work related to arts education provision in Australian primary schools. 

Dujon Niue comes from St Paul’s, Moa Island and graduated from the National Aboriginal Islander Skill Development Association (NAISDA Dance College). He was a co-founder, dancer/ choreographer of NAISDA’s Aboriginal and Islander Dance theatre “The Company”. Mr Niue was then invited to join Bangarra Dance Theatre, and toured nationally, where he performed and taught Indigenous and contemporary dance. 

Dujon is also recognised as a valuable educator, sharing his music and dance with Indigenous and non-Indigenous across Australia. For many years, Dujon has been honoured to continue to share his talents, knowledge and cultural traditions with Developing Artists from across Australia as a Cultural Tutor at NAISDA Dance College. In recent years, Dennis has been working with Musica Viva In Schools and the Torres Strait performing ensemble, Wyniss, sharing his music, dance and cultural traditions with interactive and engaging performances in schools across Australia.
