Music and Wellbeing

Our Professional Development workshops give you the confidence and tools to deliver music lessons in the classroom. Covering basic elements from the F-10 music curriculum, you will develop skills, ideas, and activities for immediate use. All events are designed for both generalist classroom teachers and music specialists.

All workshops are curriculum aligned to the relevant State music syllabus and aligned to AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers. Musica Viva Australia is a NESA-recommended provider because we currently run programs that are NESA-accredited.

Completing this PD Workshop will contribute 2 hours of TQI Accredited PD.

Current research shows that music education promotes emotional regulation, creativity, and resilience while reducing stress and anxiety, and has a significant positive impact on overall health and wellbeing.

Jessie Copeman

Jessie Copeman is a passionate specialist music educator, former professional violinist and advocate for the transformative power of music learning. Holding qualifications across both music and education, Jessie’s work explores the powerful connections between music, language and literacy, and how music can be used to support deeper learning and improved educational outcomes.

Jessie has a particular interest in neuromusical-informed practice, exploring how an understanding of the relationship between music, the brain and learning can inform teaching practice. She has presented at multiple national music and literacy conferences and delivered guest lectures on neuromusical-informed approaches to education. Jessie has also authored a peer-reviewed journal article exploring the relationship between music and learning, and has contributed her expertise to the development of educational technology, including supporting the development of a musical component within an app for ELSA.

In 2023, Jessie was a finalist for the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year, recognising her contribution to music education in Australia. Alongside her classroom practice, Jessie is a mentor in the Music in Me program, supporting teachers and schools to strengthen and expand music education. Through this work, she has supported multiple schools in the ACT and New South Wales to build teacher capacity, develop sustainable music programs and embed music more meaningfully within their school communities.

Jessie is also the Secretary of the ACT Music Educators Network and works collaboratively across schools, professional networks and arts organisations to advocate for accessible, inclusive and high-quality music education. Her work is driven by a belief that music is not simply an additional subject, but a powerful way to develop language, literacy, communication, creativity and connection, while supporting how children think, engage and learn.
