Goldner String Quartet & Piers Lane Livestream
The national livestream begins at 7PM AEST
Dvořák composed this beloved Quartet in an astonishingly productive couple of weeks, reacting with childlike enthusiasm to the new sounds he encountered on a rare family holiday in the North American countryside. Elgar’s extraordinary Piano Quintet was likewise inspired by a rural retreat. Recovering from illness and sorrowful under the strains of the Great War, he found the ‘sinister trees’ and quiet seclusion of West Sussex an unexpected spur for the creation of this most unusual, magical work.
These two distinctive and original masterpieces throw into relief the mature and individual voice of young Australian composer Jakub Jankowski. And how brilliant to have them all performed by the Goldner Quartet and Piers Lane – long-time friends, colleagues, collaborators – who for so long have championed the old and the new with utter commitment.

Jakub Jankowski A new work from Jakub Jankowski is always worth the wait: on the page it may innocently say ‘string quartet’, but his immensely creative imagination can’t resist taking the audience in an unexpected direction. Jakub’s quartet, ‘Kairos’, was written for the Goldner String Quartet for their national tour with Piers Lane. Jakub Jankowski is an Adelaide composer of primarily chamber and orchestral music. Many of his recent works have been championed by prestigious musicians from Australia and abroad, at events including the Tongyeong International Music Festival (2019), the Huntington Estate Music Festival (2019), the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival (2018), the Musica Viva Festival (2017) and the London International Mime Festival (2016). |
