A journey through rhythm

Hear, feel and create music inspired by the sounds of everyday life.

Rhythm is everywhere. In our bodies, our language, our movement and the world around us.

Inspired by the pulse of the human heartbeat, Power Grooves brings rhythm to life through an energetic performance featuring multi-instrumentalists Niki and Thea. Using drums, percussion, electronic tracks and found sounds, they create exciting grooves and interlocking patterns that grow from the simplest rhythmic ideas.

Drawing on diverse percussion traditions and contemporary music-making, the performers demonstrate how rhythm can communicate stories, inspire creativity and bring people together. Students are invited to see, hear and feel rhythm in new ways while discovering that music can be made from almost anything.

Accompanying digital resources explore creativity through body percussion, composition and environmental sound exploration, showing students that rhythm and music-making are accessible to everyone. Power Grooves will have every student tapping, clapping and hearing the world around them in a whole new way.

Professional Development

Every Musica Viva Australia In Schools show booking includes a free Professional Development Webinar designed to help you get the most out of your chosen ensemble and accompanying teaching resources.

PD Webinars will take place in Term 1. 2027. Registrations open Monday 7 September.

Resources

Every booking includes at least a term’s worth of education resources to help you and other teachers at your school bring music into the classroom and prepare your students for the performance.

This includes:

Up to 12 weeks of curriculum-aligned lesson activities
Interactive content that brings the musicians into the classroom with instructional videos
Student facing materials to encourage independent learning
Resources that are curriculum-aligned to all four national and state curricula

Financial Assistance

Musica Viva Australia is able to offer financial assistance to schools in need through our Equal Music program.

Support is available for low ICSEA and small schools, and for students facing financial or geographical barriers that would otherwise prohibit them from participating. Contact your state office or find out more information here.
